I got a couple of Tomb Kings job lots recently for a cheap price, and ended up with 21 chariots and a bunch of other stuff. With the boost chariots got in CoK18, I have been playing with the idea of building a Tomb Kings / Empire of Dust chariot army, and 2019 will hopefully be the year I build it.
My first iteration of the army at 2k is something like the following:
1x Revenant chariot horde
4x Revenant chariot regiments
1x Scavenger regiment
2x Pharaoh on chariot
2x Bone Dragon
1x Bone Giant
1x High Priest
1x Soul Snare
I got some points to spare for items, and the list might change a bit when I actually get to play it, but the core will stay the same for now, as the goal is to have a list with a ton of chariots.
The basic game-plan is that the chariot line has enough nerve, speed and hitting power to delay, threaten and damage the enemy enough for my monsters to get surged into flanks and rears to clean up. Chariot regiments with -/15 nerve for only 115pts seem like a pretty good deal. The soul snare just looks too good now to not try it out.
I made my first chariot regiment to try out the basing and paint scheme. I decided to go for a clean look with dark marble-like stone features and bronze. The bases will get some tufts, but are otherwise done. The chariots might get some weathering, but I think I will wait with weathering more until I have the basic army up and running. 2/14 chariots done!

Nice job on the jade and cracked earth! I’ve been redoing my own Tomb Kings into Empire of Dust using a mix of old GW, Mantic, and TMS Shabti. They’re very fun to paint/play. Out of curiosity, which product did you use for the cracked earth effect?

Thanks! It is made with GW agrellan earth. Note that you have to seal it properly for it to not flake off from the lightest touch.

Finally getting around to doing these. Quick question: I’ve not worked with agrellan earth before – did you cover the entire base with it or just select parts? It looks like parts of your base are flat earth and parts cracked which is a nice mix. Also, your final result looks brighter – not sure if that’s just lighting. Thanks in advance for any advice as I’ve been experimenting the last week with different base schemes and this is next!

Sorry for late reply Brian. I covered the entire base in it. It cracks in different sizes based on the thickness you put it on. Thin = small cracks, Thick = big cracks. You are correct that my bases are lighter than the normal agrellan color, they are painted after.
My process:
1: Build unevenness with wood spackle (the paint tears normal spackle)
2: Spray the base and spackle dark color
3: Add agrellan earth over the entire base
4: Cover in watered-down PVA (woodglue)
5: Paint in colors you want. Mix of drybrush and inks
