I’ve finally gotten around to painting up most of the IFV variants I converted up for my PDF and renegades. These tanks are made by a combination of Old Crow tanks and turrets, ramshackle games tracks, plasticard and various other bits. Still missing are the “allegiance” bits, which will be magnetized to allow them to switch between imperial and chaos allegiance. I have made three of the turreted version, and am currently finishing up the SPG version. Fluff and pictures for the finished variants below.
Many planetary defense forces and even some imperial guard regiments source their vehicles from the forge world Urdesh. This forge world produces armoured fighting vehicles from light walkers to super heavy tanks, and are proud of their localised designs. The MAV-35 (medium armoured vehicle, 35 tonnes) plattform is the most numerous of them all, with variants for any need an imperial commander can have.
The “Outlaw” is the standard infantry fighting vehicle, the chimera equivalent. The Outlaw is typically armed with a rotary multi-laser and co-axial heavy stubber, and a hull heavy bolter or heavy flamer. It has similar protection as a chimera, able to survive auto-cannon fire to the front, and with decent protection against small arms from the sides and rear. It has a transport capacity of 12 fully loaded soldiers, and it can also be outfitted as a command vehicle. The side door vision port allow embarked infantry to fire their own guns while still embarked.Infantry can disembark efficiently from the articulated ramp at the rear and through the side doors. A heavier armed fire support vehicle, the “Exile”. Mounting a heavier turret with advanced sensor and optic systems, giving it increased capability for night fighting. This variant is armed with twin 90mm battle cannons, mainly using HE shells to engage infantry strongpoints. The Exile can mount other weapon systems, such as long barrel 30mm autocannons or chemical weaponry.A forward view of the Exile, showing the advanced sensor suite the commander has access to, as well as the driver hatch. The hull weapon is sometimes upgraded to a multi-melta on these vehicles. The “Offender” SPAA version mounts a radar and a quad 30mm autocannon. Excellent for engaging light skimmers and other low-flyers, as well as insurgents on roof-tops. Both sides used Offenders to protect tank columns from infantry attacks. The “Sinner” MLRS is rare, but perhaps the most brutal of the MAV-35 family. Armed with a 32-barrel thermobaric rocket launcher system, it can incinerate a large area with a full barrage. Entire companies of infantry were lost to these weapons on Khai-Zhan. The way the consecrated promethium payload is spread over an area, igniting the very air itself, means that practically no cover is proof against this weapon of mass destruction, save for airtight bunkers or AFVs, or being deep underground. For Imperial vulture and vendetta pilots, bagging one of these was a high priority while hunting on Khai-Zhan, and rebel forces set entire battle groups to hunt them down to destroy, or preferably capture, the potent engines. A few of these vehicles were commandeered by Ecclessiarchy forces in the defence of the Catedral of Holy Saints. The surviving vehicles were not returned to the PDF, remaining in use supporting the sister of battle with purifying fire for the heretic hordes.“Transgressor” is armed with a radar, an advanced sensor suite and heavy guided missiles. The missiles can be long range anti-air, or for ground attack. It has a similar payload as a manticore, able to launch four missiles in quick succession before it must go through a lengthy reload process.
